Edinburgh tram extension stretches to Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Rousse)
The Edinburgh tram line extension stretched all the way to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I sat at the front of the vehicle with a Chinese man, his baby and his toddler. He was very impressed with the at-seat baby changing facilities.

Party date mix-up and chocolate Settlers of Catan (Rousse)
TPR caused chaos when he declared that we would host our Christmas party on Friday rather than Saturday due to the weather forecast. The last minute change meant that some people now couldn’t make the celebration, and there was a … Continue reading
A Star Trek screening and a sick bed sanctuary (Rousse)
I was in no fit state to trek across the mountains after my operation, but TPR made me do this so that he could watch Star Trek films at the university cinema, snuggled up to a couple of women, who … Continue reading
A flight to Leith by way of Leicester (Rousse)
All our friends were at a party on the top floor of a plate glass tower block in Leith. I wanted to join them, but I didn’t have the right change for the bus. Eventually I took the long route … Continue reading
All change in the bathroom (Rousse)
I forced my father to remove his ‘Have you cleaned your teeth?’ chart from the hall wall. He put it in the bathroom instead. My next mission was to persuade TPR to get a plumber in to fix the lavatory … Continue reading
Sharing a cabin with Dermot Murnaghan (Rousse)
I sat next to television news presenter Dermot Murnaghan in the passenger cabin of the tiny plane. Keen not to embarrass him by making it obvious that I recognised him, I engaged him in conversation about Scottish stereotypes (e.g. short, … Continue reading

Loose change found in red telephone box is small fortune to lonely lochside walker (Rousse)
I walked for miles and miles alone, without a single podcast, in shorts and sandals along the loch side. By the time I reached the village at around the mid-point of the 32-mile route, however, I was missing TPR’s company. … Continue reading
A shaman, a shopping trolley, and sisters’ satin dresses (Rousse)
The camp site shaman forced everyone to hand over their belongings on arrival. We were meant to do the same. Somehow, however, I had managed to find a way of acquiring the goods of others. I took a blue tartan … Continue reading
Neglected baby suffers eye bleeds (Rousse)
I managed to keep the baby alive with the minimum of care. I only looked at it once a day when I fed it a bottle and changed its nappy. The only indication that it was in any distress was … Continue reading
