Mystery grapes found in death-trap car in Newcastle (Rousse)
Sandyford Road was almost empty of traffic, most likely due to the pandemic restrictions. This suited me as I drove to my new seconded post at the University of Northumbria. I’d easily make it to the office on time. Then … Continue reading

Failed seduction in a Birmingham bedsit (Rousse)
Even though I vowed to him that I would never stray from the arms of TPR, my father’s cousin did his clumsy best to seduce me. His attachment to a thin ornamental walking cane – supposedly a support for his … Continue reading
A conference mix-up (Rousse)
‘I’m looking forward to your paper in Newcastle on Saturday’ said my colleague from Engineering. ‘I don’t think so’ I replied. ‘I’m off to Loughborough this weekend’. Then I checked my diary. I had double-booked myself and now had just … Continue reading

Edinburgh tram extension stretches to Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Rousse)
The Edinburgh tram line extension stretched all the way to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I sat at the front of the vehicle with a Chinese man, his baby and his toddler. He was very impressed with the at-seat baby changing facilities.

An heiress makes plans (Rousse)
I was trapped inside the house that I had inherited from my maternal grandmother. I could happily entertain myself by revisiting all the rooms that I remembered from my childhood, and perusing the contents of the cupboards. All the crystal … Continue reading
Sunny South Shields shelters skiers (Rousse)
We were travelling to our Alpine ski holiday on an early morning flight from Newcastle airport – as, it would appear, was half the population of the north east of England. All the airport hotels were fully booked, so we … Continue reading

Thrills of the naked Newbrough to Newcastle commuter (Rousse)
I commuted to Newcastle daily by bus and train from Newbrough, Northumberland – naked. I knew it was wrong, but found it so hard to break my habit. It was such a thrill every morning to walk down Grainger Street … Continue reading

Thieving World Cup football fans (Rousse)
I was pleased that the meeting was called in Corbridge because it was an easy ride back from there to Edinburgh. I checked the old-fashioned departure board at the railway station and confirmed my plan to catch the 13:45 service … Continue reading
Novel marketing ploy from Nandos (Rousse)
When I returned to my cabin mid-morning I found two members of staff still there, tidying up the bedroom and cleaning the bathroom. They hurried away, indicating in broken English that they would come back later. It was only when … Continue reading
A private tour of the National Railway Museum, York (Rousse)
My mother had parked her car in Newcastle, but accidentally purchased train tickets that took us further south to York. ‘It’s OK’, we assured to her, ‘We just get off at Newcastle. Nobody will care if we leave our seats … Continue reading
