Urban garden woodpecker and wood (Rousse)
I looked out of the bedroom window and couldn’t believe my eyes: there was a woodpecker on our bird feeder! I looked out a second time and saw my old colleague BP picking up logs from the lawn. ‘Please just … Continue reading

House dressing (Rousse)
From the outside, my sister’s flat looked pretty much the same. The only difference was the selection of handmade cat greeting cards for sale to passing tourists on the window ledge. Inside, however, a huge transformation had taken place. The … Continue reading
A heart attack hero and villain (Rousse)
A distressed bird flew into the sitting room. TPR grumpily forced the window open to allow it to escape. Unfortunately he suffered a heart attack due to the effort, and complained incessantly afterwards. Sometimes I wondered whether my husband liked … Continue reading

Belle blasts Beastie Boys
I was cast as a ‘Greek Chorus’ type flatmate in a reality show. I would make strange entrances and exits and comment on what the contestants were up to. My most famous entrance was via a black shiny helicopter equipped … Continue reading

Coach plunges into Scottish loch, many feared drowned (Rousse)
As the coach left the outskirts of Glasgow, I tested the reclining bed that I had discovered next to the window. It was very versatile, with several options for its positioning. The traffic had thinned out by the time we … Continue reading
A lobster-pot daughter and dodgy art work cleaning (Rousse)
Even though he obviously was not her father, TPR was the primary carer for our tiny new African baby. She was so beautiful that even I found it hard to believe that she was my very own daughter. We were … Continue reading
A lochside home with a tiny, floppy, brown cow (Rousse)
When we heard that BP was vacating his flat at the Pleasance, TPR and I said that we might be interested in it. However, since it was accessed through a gym, we had to wait until opening time to view … Continue reading
