String sorting wife clings to marital home (Rousse)
Just days before his great revelation, TPR and I had been smugly working our way through albums of old photographs, congratulating ourselves on our long and happy marriage. Now we had returned to our old house in Birmingham (the rooms … Continue reading

Midges put off move to Lochinver (Rousse)
TPR and I took temporary accommodation in a Lochinver hotel. It wasn’t very suitable: whenever the tide came in, our room was flooded with sea water and the occasional fish; the bathroom was barely a cupboard; and poor security encouraged … Continue reading

Mini-men cleaning army (Rousse)
I awoke to the sound of small feet scurrying in the hall. When I opened my eyes I could make out some figures through the open bedroom door. Four tiny men armed with dusters, polish and mops were busy cleaning … Continue reading
Edinburgh property dispute (Rousse)
We had already sold and moved out of our Edinburgh flat a couple of times – and always ended up buying it back again. There was something about the sensible dimensions of the rooms, as well as the flat’s convenient … Continue reading
Reader held hospital hostage (Rousse)
For a change, the book group members met for Sunday lunch. MH offered her sparse flat as the venue, even though she could not attend herself. JS’s sister took MH’s place, holding her head in her hands whenever death was … Continue reading
Accommodation woes at the University of Birmingham (Rousse)
The renamed, but not refurbished, Mason Hall on the Vale at the University of Birmingham was to be our home for our Masters year. Once again I was sharing accommodation with HJ and SL, although this time it was not … Continue reading

A witless move to Wolverhampton (Rousse)
Only a week earlier I’d been saying that I loved my Edinburgh flat so much that I would never leave. So why was I now moving into a bungalow in Wolverhampton? Its only ‘advantage’ over my former home was the … Continue reading

A flying dog and flat tyres (Rousse)
A small, yet overweight, black dog came flying through the air and knocked me to the ground. The dog’s owner looked up briefly in concern. However, of more interest to her was her silver Volvo. The car had just collapsed … Continue reading
When your new neighbours are reality television stars (Rousse)
The new upstairs neighbours had moved in! I was able to confirm this to TPR and DM from the bedroom window as I watched a car arrive in the new parking space behind our garden. Before long we noticed that … Continue reading

Cat capture (Rousse)
I was speaking to my parents on the phone from the comfort of my own bed at 06:00am when three cats jumped into the flat through the bedroom window. I left TPR to chase the intruders out again.
