I watched in horror as the huge lorry rolled backwards on the pavement outside Nando’s on Lothian Road, Edinburgh. That poor baby, who a couple of minutes ago was playing on the ground just out of the line of sight of its mother, would be squashed to a bloody pancake beneath the heavy wheels.

Miraculously the child survived! In celebration the mother and her friends performed a happy dance along the street.
